Dear Family and Friends,
We are so relieved. Dr. Rose is here now and that lets me take off some of the extra hats I have been wearing and catch up on things. One of those things is The Road to Gimbie.
We had two intersting cases this last week. The first case was a pregnant mom at 9 months gestation and she had been in labor for 4 days. It is a wonder that she did not rupture her uterus. Anyway, the baby's head had come all the way down and gotten stuck just at the opening of the vagina.
Needless to say, this was really uncomfortable for Mom, since the head had been there for a whole day by the time she came in. Sadly, the baby had already died, but how to get the dead baby out. We discovered the reason why the baby was not coming out was that the baby's head was in the wrong
position. Usually, in a normal delivery, the baby is facing the floor when the head comes out, and the back part of the head is the first part to come
out. In this baby, the baby was face up, and then instead of the back part of the head coming first, the face of the baby was coming first. This is a
really tough position for the baby to be in. Anyway, we got out the forceps to try to pull the head out. After much pulling, we finally got the baby out. I breathed a silent prayer that this ordeal was over.
Two days later another mom came in with the baby in the same abnormal position. When the nurse called me to see the baby, I thought that the baby was gone, but when I touched the lips of the baby, which were the part that were coming out first, the baby actually sucked my fingers and my heart gave a leap as I realized that we had a chance to save this baby. Mom was a mighty pusher, as mighty as I have ever seen. She realized the difficulty we were in and our concern for her and the baby's well-being and she pushed as hard as she could. After pushing for only about 20 minutes, she was finally able to push the baby out. There wasn't even a cut or a tear from all of this. I remember reading in the book of 1 Kings in the Bible about "mighty men of valor," but this mom was a mighty mom of pushing. Baby and mom turned out just fine. Another answer to prayer.
Last time I wrote, I promised to send some pictures of the construction site. The attachments are a few pictures of the progress that has been made, in spite of all the heavy rains, during the rainy season, which is still going on. Enjoy the pictures.
Sincerely in Christ,
Nick, Phosfe, Christopher and Ian Walters
